Jesus loved us when we were helpless and unloveable, and we desire to respond by loving and serving the needs of those around us! But we find that our default is often to pursue service from a desire to make a name for ourselves, or because of guilt. Neither motivation is empowered by the gospel and both are a sure way to burn out.
We believe it is crucial that our love for others be authentically motivated out of hearts that have known the grace of God through the truth of the gospel, with no strings attached. We encourage one another to reach out organically, rather than putting undue emphasis or energies on institutionally organized programs, although we certainly are not opposed to banding together as a church or with other organizations for the benefit of others and to adorn the gospel of our God.
